On behalf of the WM-Air team, Bill Bloss, Catherine Muller and Jian Zhong, along with Jackie Homan from the WMCA, received an Impact Award for Outstanding Impact on the Environment at a ceremony held at The Exchange on 11th April. The judging panel were particularly struck by the very close working relationship with external partners, and the comprehensive engagement at the regional level.
The award was presented for the work the team – particularly Joe Acton – has done in conjunction with the WMCA, WSP and local authorities to produce the first West Midlands-wide Air Quality Framework aiming to improve air quality for the £2.9m residents and reduce ca.2300 early deaths/year attributed to air pollution across the region. This AQ framework is now supporting actions to improve air quality across the region via a suite of funded-activities.
